Classic TV comedy. Amidst the slightly irritating rise of crappy reality television, the 21st century has experienced a Renaissance in televisual hilarity not seen since the 60s. Where ballsy and ambitious animations like Futurama and South Park were the calling-card of the 90s, the early 2000s saw a hefty shift to a new brand of revolutionary, self-aware comedy (Not that we didn’t have our fair share of the cartoon funnies as well).
As a guy who spends far too much time cackling away at the old idiot box, the batshit insanery of the modern Brit-com and the shaky-cam shenanigans of the American new-wave have whittled away countless hours where I’d otherwise be off doing something presumably more constructive. But I didn’t do that, I sat, and I watched… a lot. But it’s all been worth it for this -the most well-informed, definitive and completely unquestionable list of the greatest comedy shows to grace the 21st century ever made.
There’s only one rule when it comes to this list: The show’s pilot must have aired after January 1st 2000, meaning Family Guy, Futurama et al are going to be unfortunately absent -but that’s just the way it crumbles, cookie-wise.
